The Hidden Value of Social Data: Why Most Brands Miss the Mark
While social media is widely recognized as a crucial hub for brand building, a recent industry study reveals a major breakdown in how organizations handle the valuable data it generates. According to a report by Sprout Social shared by Social Media Today, although 93% of marketing professionals agree that gathering social media data is essential for growth, only 36% actually use these insights to make strategic decisions outside of marketing. This "intelligence gap" means crucial feedback about customer preferences remains trapped within isolated social media teams.
The study highlights severe consequences: 33% of companies missed major cultural shifts over the last two years due to a poor grasp of consumer insights, and 31% failed to notice early changes in customer behavior. Crucially, 23% of organizations still treat social media merely as a broadcasting channel rather than a data collection tool.
For businesses and creators in Iran, this issue is even more pronounced. In our local market, traditional market research is often slow or too expensive. Social media channels like Instagram, Telegram, and LinkedIn act as the primary, real-time pulse of the Iranian consumer. However, many domestic business owners view their SMM teams solely as "content publishers" rather than strategic advisors. By giving social media managers a voice in strategic decision-making, Iranian brands can adapt much faster to economic changes and consumer shifts.
